When you mused "(...), because that is what the internet, search, apps, and personal computing have trained all of us to do for the last twenty five years.", why did you benchmarked the year 2001? Is it because it was the de-facto beginning of the twenty-first century? Excellent exposition of ideas.

Just a thought, it was the year when everything started becoming an opportunity (in the business sense), before that, all this was reserved for researchers, geeks and mavericks - then the mainstream jumped onboard, and it started shaping our very existence, for the best and the worse…
